A great opportunity to develop the wind resource of Scotland exists. The full scale development of wind generation in the UK comes after it has in some other parts of the world. This timing has allowed the technology to become highly developed overseas and for the tariff regime to develop. The combination of those factors with the extent of wind energy in Scotland produces a unique opportunity.
Landowners can participate in the development of the wind resource in a variety of ways. They may choose to participate not only as receivers of rent but also with ownership in the wind turbines which stand on their land. MacWind leases land from landowners at commercial rates for wind farming purposes but also actively promotes landowner participation in the wind generation schemes it develops. There are several approaches to this aspect of development and it is possible to tailor an approach to the landowner’s risk appetite and circumstances. We have experience of this aspect and are creative in ensuring the landowner achieves the right balance of risk and exposure. Central to that is our understanding of the value of good sites, the need for a harmonious long term working relationship and the maintenance of our reputation.
We have been through the process from identifying sites to achieving planning approval and grid connections and have several operating turbines. In addition we have several other sites on which planning approvals are actively being sought. These projects range from single turbine developments of somewhat below 500kw to multiple turbine schemes approaching 10Mw.
MacWind is interested to enter into a dialogue with all interested parties for the development of wind resources in Scotland. If you own or control land on which there may be the prospect of siting wind turbines please get in touch via the Contact Us link. On that link you will find a contact form, email addresses and contact numbers. Please use whichever suits you best.
If you would like to learn more about your own site a good place to start is the national windspeed database and the url for that can be found under Links.
